Meet Chico , a beautiful twelve-year-old male Umbrella Cockatoo.
The owners not knowing any better put the bird outside on a stand not
protected from outside perils, no one to watch him or protect should a
hawk or cat come along, or if the bird were to fall off the
stand. When he was inside he was placed in a small round wire cage.
The diameter of the cage was maybe 18 inches - the size suitable for
a cockatiel not cockatoo. Round isn't good for any bird. Birds
like corners. Even considering all this, he is in good condition and
no feather plucking. He is just a little nervous... eventually his
trust will be won. His diet was incorrect as well, but now he
receives a lot of pellets, fresh vegetables, fresh fruits and lots of
love. Unfortunately, his other owners did not understand the
complexities of Umbrella Cockatoos which included diet, caging, attention,
etc. Chico now spends his days chattering away with his new flock
which includes Jeremiah (Male Solomon Eclectus), whom he loves. He
loves to have his head, wings and back scratched, cuddling and dancing to
music.
